Fast paced, stressful, over worked at times, direct management seems not to care at times, hours become over baring during busy seasons, expect to work 10-14 hour shifts five days a week, plus on call. Heavy manual labor and lots of driving for delivery techs. The pay is decent and they do pay overtime at 1.5 pay rate, plus full benefits, great job security so long as your a hard worker and team player, self satisfaction in knowing you are helping sick people. Minimum supervision and freedom once on the road to complete route. An organization is formed to achieve certain goals and objectives by bringing individuals together on a common platform and motivating them to deliver their level best. It is essential for the employees to enjoy at the workplace for them to develop a sense of loyalty towards it.Work culture plays an important role in extracting the best out of employees and making them stick to the organization for a longer duration. The organization must offer a positive ambience to the employees for them to concentrate on their work rather than interfering in each other’s work.
Started with the company and worked there for 25 years. Apria used to be a company that cared about its customers and valued employees with experience and knowledge.Currently, Apria is only about the $$$ and how much they can outsource-No matter how it negatively impacts the customer or employee.Experienced times when customers who had questions about billing or customer service were transferred back and forth up to 5 times and then put on hold for long periods. The Managers at a Branch level are Responsible for their P&L yet have no authority to make positive changes. All Customer calls go to a call center as local Branches cannot receive calls directly.Since the company outsources a great deal, in most cases the customer cannot even understand what the person answering the phone is saying. Apria treats their employees like they are just cogs in the machine. They use them to fill whatever position they need filled. You will get hired as a manager and they will dump you down to a lower position if that's what they need, it has nothing to do with the employee's performance. I have watched this happen over and over again.
They will lay off people who have worked there for many years. All this creates a stressful work environment. Who can be comfortable in a company that does not seem to value you?
I was in the Inside sales department for a year and a half. I was promised that I would be able to work from home, have my hours changed, and there was no target that you had to reach in order to get commission. Within 6 months they started a target that if you didn't make 55k a month in commission that you wouldn't get your bonus. They started miscalculating the commissions not too long after. The issue had to be taken to HR when at that time my commissions went up about 20k. Without the commissions you make 12.50 an hour. That is not enough to live on in Overland Park.

This company will lie through their teeth and not deliver on their promises. I ended up giving my 2 weeks notice because they weren't paying me commissions, didn't change my schedule, and would'nt let me work from home after a year and a half.
Their solution is to just keep hiring more employees. I ended up putting in my two weeks and they let me go a week early for no reason. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone and I think they need to be investigated for fraud. This company was so great many many years ago. The staff was like family and was such a stress free environment.
Then came the outsourcing of jobs to india which lead to many layoffs and the start of what apria is today.an embarrassment. When i was there and people would ask they were hiring i would be like yeah but i wouldnt do that to you or if family members would ask if we provided certain equipment i would tell them go somewhere else. They do alot of things that just seem shady. This company is so money driven that they forget to live up to their missiom statement, the patient is nothing to them. When a process isnt working they change it without giving it time to work. They dont seem to know what they are doing anymore and have just become an embarassment. If you need a job keep looking, if you know someone who needs dme services refer them elsewhere.
Apria doesnt care about the employee or the patient. This is one of the worst jobs I’ve ever had. They are terrible people. Customers calling in had 45 minute hold times and would be furious and scream at us because the company was too cheap to staff properly.
Insane turnover rate. Unhelpful team leads would refuse to answer questions. Petty high school drama. The company broke so many laws. They would run “special projects” where we went into past due accounts and charged the balance to the credit card on file without contacting the customer. If the card declined we would convert rental items to a purchase item and then sent it to collections without ever sending bills.
They would charge people copays in advance and if insurance said there was no copay or that the copay was less than anticipated they would go in and just up adjust the invoice to include the customers payment so it wouldn’t be refunded. They had a part of the system called suspense where hundreds of thousands of dollars sat of payments that the company took but didn’t be apply to an account. If we went into suspense and applied payments to the accounts they belong to without someone calling in on the account we got written up and lost our bonuses.

Minimum supervision and freedom once on the road to complete route. As a Respiratory Therapist at Apria, you have no say whatsoever in anything. This was the most degrading position I’ve ever had. You are NOT allowed to communicate with physicians, case managers or any other referral sources unless it is via the “Account Executive” which is just an embellished term for sales rep. On call is dependent on how your branch decides to do it but most of them rotate every 7 days. When it is your turn, plan to have no life, and no say in the matter.
They also send you to the WORST parts of town, alone, at night, as a woman! You are literally risking your life.
Not worth it. This was NOT a good fit for a mother of young children.
There is also ZERO communication between departments. The customer service is sourced to the Philippines so customers are ALWAYS complaining and blaming you for something you know nothing about. There is very little training that takes place other than the computer orientation.
They are so disorganized that it took me almost THREE months to get passwords for necessary software that was needed to fulfill my job duties. And the health benefits are AWFUL!!! They are high deductible plans with high OOP limits that are not worth even opting for. The only thing I can say that I liked about this job was the fact that the other RT’s were great people. A very satisfying job and incredible co-workers. Typical day starts with arriving to work and reviewing my route for the day. I then load my truck with the assistance of the other delivery technicians, then help then load theirs.
Then you contact your stops for the day and head out. Everyday is different, so therefore interesting. Thanks to the extensive training and cutting edge logistics, rarely is there a situation you can't handle. If there is, your co-workers and managers are only a phone call away. Best part of the job is the the people you meet daily and the appreciation they have for the difference you make in their life. Teamwork is the key in making everything work and the Middletown NY location exemplifies that as everyone works together so well.
